Serota said that Tate Modern is nine years ahead of the original planning. In the meantime, the expansion of the museum continues. A few works have been commissioned on this occation. But above all, the new rooms will offer space for new tendencies in art, such as performace, music, projection, and space for interaction with guests.įrom 18 July to 28 October, a comprehensive programme will be presented, to show the variety of options for use. They will offer more space for the growing number of guests, they are part of the foundation for the huge annex of the Tate Modern which will be built soon. The concrete structures serve several purposes. «We have reached the next level of Tate Modern’s transformation», said Tate director Nicolas Serota at the presentation of the «Tanks» on Monday.
As of today, the tanks will be used as exhibition space, especially for new tendencies in art, such as performance, sound, projection, and discussions. The tanks belong to the electric company which has become the new home of the Tate Modern, years ago.
The old oil tanks at the Tate Modern in London are now open to the public.
